Dozens of people were killed on Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike on Jabalia, northern Gaza, Palestinian sources said.
At least 47 people, including a journalist, have died since this morning, medical sources say. The information could not be independently verified.
Palestinian news agency WAFA said one attack killed 15 people, hitting a hospital courtyard and tents sheltering displaced people. The Israeli military said it is verifying the reports.
According to local officials, the Israeli army has been fighting in the area for five days in a row.
“There is no end to hell,” Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, wrote on X about the situation in northern Gaza. “At least 400,000 people are trapped in the area.”
The operation also jeopardizes the ongoing polio vaccination campaign, Lazzarini added.
A few days ago, the Israeli army launched a new ground incursion into northern Gaza. Israel said the militant Palestinian organization Hamas is trying to regroup in the Jabalia area.
