MINNEAPOLIS — If you or your loved ones are planning to travel home on Friday, we may have some bad news for you.
A wave of storms is moving through parts of the country, disrupting a record holiday travel season. A dense fog warning is in effect in Minnesota until Friday afternoon, followed by widespread rain.
Early Friday, hundreds of flights were canceled across the country and more than 11,000 were delayed.
As of 7 a.m. Friday, 31 flights were delayed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and five have been canceled, according to the website FlightAware.
“I didn’t expect that, that’s for sure. But I see the safety times and that should be okay. But I just told my Uber driver, it was definitely a little more than I expected,” said traveler Jared Compton . , from Minneapolis. “Just take a deep breath. Just breathe. Everyone’s trying to get somewhere. Getting frustrated with other people or your family members or your kids or anything like that doesn’t help the situation. Just take a deep breath and relax.”
The TSA expects 40 million travelers between December 19 and January 2, a 6% increase over last year.
