Draymond says KAT ‘lies’ about taking 1,500 shots a day

Draymond Green, working as a TNT analyst, has focused most of the 2024 Western Conference finals on Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

But after the Timberwolves’ Game 3 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Warriors forward turned his attention to Minnesota big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who after struggling in Sunday’s 116-107 loss, said he takes at least 1,500 shots per day during training. .

“Hey Ernie, do you know what ‘cap’ is?” Green said on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” after Sunday’s game.

“Yes,” replied host Ernie Johnson.

“He’s lying,” Green said. “No one is shooting 1,500 rounds a day right now.”

Fellow TNT analyst Kenny Smith, a 48 percent shooter during his 10-year NBA career, agreed with Green.

“I’m a shooter. I’ve never shot. I’ve made it,” Smith said. “So to make 300 a day takes about 45 minutes. So if you take 1,500, it takes you about two and a half hours. And you’re already practicing, so it’s a limit.”

Towns, an NBA All-Star this season and self-proclaimed the greatest shooting big man in NBA history, finished 5-for-18 from the field in Sunday’s loss to the Timberwolves, including 0-for-8 from the field. 3-point range.

“I shoot up to 1,500 shots a day and have shot that well all the playoffs,” Towns told reporters after the game. “Confidence is extremely high and it’s hard to have these unfortunate bounces and looks that just don’t go in. It’s definitely difficult. As far as confidence goes, I just have to keep shooting.”

Green didn’t hold Towns back as he detailed what’s going wrong for the No. 3 seed Timberwolves.

‘The problem with that is that I don’t actually think so [Anthony Edwards] dominated the ball,” Green said. “I think he’s gotten away with too much of it. Now KAT won’t have the same number of minutes and seconds that Ant has the ball because he brings it up. But I think when KAT touches the ball it actually sticks more than when Ant had the ball.

“So I don’t know. I mean he obviously needs to go to the rim but he just doesn’t answer the bell and this is who KAT has been in his career where when the going gets tough they say he’s the other going in that direction.” way. So you have to figure that out.”

Towns, Gobert and the Timberwolves will try to avoid being swept by the Mavericks in Game 4 on Tuesday.

But if Towns and Gobert don’t perform well on Tuesday, expect Groen to hit them hard.
