FAIRFIELD – A driver has been arrested on murder charges in Fairfield after police say he ran over a man multiple times in a parking lot and left the scene late Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. as a man was walking through the north parking lot of the Solano Town Center when he was struck by another man driving a white Dodge pickup, police said.

This is when the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Fairfield man Vakautakava Tangitau, ran over the victim multiple times and drove away from the scene, police said.

A witness was able to follow Tangitau as he called police. Police said they located Tangitau near East Tabor Avenue and Sunset Avenue and took him into custody.

Police said Tangitau was known to officers from previous mental health calls. They said he was in jail for murder.

The murdered man has not been identified at this time.
