Driver dies after encountering oncoming traffic on SC highway

A driver was killed in a head-on collision in York County Friday afternoon, troopers said.

Around 1:15 p.m., South Carolina Highway Patrol was called to Highway 274, about 5 miles south of Clover. There they found an accident involving three cars: a Chevrolet pickup, a Ford pickup and a Chevrolet SUV.

According to investigators, the SUV was traveling south on Highway 274 when it crossed the center line and struck the Ford truck head-on. The Chevy truck was hit by debris from the crash, they said.

The driver of the SUV died from his injuries, police said. Their identities have not been released.

The driver of the Ford was injured and taken to hospital. The driver and passenger of the Chevy truck were not injured.

Researchers did not share any further information.
