Driver with teen in car faces felony DWI charges

Sept. 1 – A 44-year-old Newfane woman was charged with a violation of Leandra’s Law following a traffic stop on Coomer Road early Sunday morning.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported that Kristi L. McGrew, 44, of Newfane, was pulled over on Coomer Road in Newfane around 12:10 a.m. Sunday. She was stopped by a deputy who was searching for her vehicle after another driver complained to sheriff’s dispatchers.

McGrew failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. A 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle was turned over to a parent.

McGrew was charged with violating Leandra’s Law (a misdemeanor of aggravated DWI), endangering the welfare of a child, failing to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, and several other vehicle and traffic violations. She was remanded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment proceedings.
