This year will be the final time for early voting as voters decide the form of El Paso’s city government.
Six races remain to be decided — the mayor’s seat and five spots on the El Paso City Council — after no candidate reached the 50% threshold needed to win last month’s general election outright.
El Paso residents can vote in the mayoral race. Residents must live in council districts 1, 3, 4, 5 or 7 to vote in those individual runoffs.
Also in the second election ballot in El Paso, there is a race for the fourth municipal court judge. Socorro voters will elect a District 4 councilor.
The December runoff concludes a marathon year of voting for El Pasoans that began in January with a runoff for the District 2 seat on the City Council. Voters then returned to the polls for the Super Tuesday contest in March and subsequent elections, before venturing out again in November.
The stakes are high as El Paso is poised to consider generational projects like the proposed Downtown I-10 Deck Plaza while facing basic needs like tax credits, an understaffed police department and crumbling roads and sidewalks.
