ECISD praises the higher success rate

June 13 – Ector County ISD has the highest success rate in the last 22 years and Chief Inspector Scott Muri said that there are several reasons for that.

The percentage of 85.7 percent applies to the 2023 class and is 2 percentage points higher than the year before. Information from the data of the Texas Education Agency is a lagging indicator and it takes about a year to collect all that data, Muri said.

The students were included in the graduation figures who walked on stage in May, but students have until August to graduate. There is a summer diploma, so all those students are counted.

“We still count the graduates for the class of 2024,” said Muri during his media call on June 12.

Muri has credited the six secondary schools for the attention that has been paid to their students from the first year to the last year, by offering support to students who are struggling, to ensure that students and families know they are the subjects Get that they have to get, and see if there are holes in it. Students transcriptions and the effective use of the learning opportunities in the summer.

Muri noted that the class of 2023 experienced many challenges due to the COVID-19 Pandemie.

“It really affected a lot of those children, so (we are) super proud of increasing the success rate in the midst of all the challenges that these students were confronted with. With the 2024 class that had just graduated, they again started their secondary school career At home, so they have passed a number of pretty big challenges.

Before 2023, ECISD reported more than 1,800 graduates before the summer diploma ceremony.

This year there were around 1,900 graduates.

On another subject he said that Bond 2023 is in full swing. “We are even very happy to announce that we have already completed two quite important projects that were part of Bond 2023.

“The first project we completed was the renewal of the tennis courts of our secondary schools. That project is now fully completed and (we are) pleased to welcome our high school students both this summer and in the fall, because they have the opportunity To use those tennis courts, “said Muri.

The second completed item is the installation of Promethean Boards, these are electronic chalkboards in every classroom.

“Those of us who attended school many years ago remember the chalkboard. We have long replaced it with digital tools that our teachers and students can use. All our classrooms now have brand new tools that either were part of the bonds or a Part of a general package that we have exercised, “said Muri.

Another bond project to which ECISD spent a lot of time on is the design and development of a new high school on South Tripp Avenue in West-Udessa.

‘On Tuesday evening our board of directors spent quite some time looking at the design of that high school, at the exterior design … and to the interior components – everything from the classroom to the art section to the athletics area, all different parts of that specific high school , “said Muri.

Board members could assess the plans and give feedback.

“The next step in the process is that we will continue to refine those elements, and then we will involve a group of stakeholders at the beginning of this fall, members of our community, students, parents, teachers, managers, who will actually be part of the process. From that school climate.

“We will ask them to do different things. First of all: what will the new school mascot of that specific institute be? What will the school colors be? What will the name of that new high school? Look forward to involving our community in that decision -making process, “Muri added.

On the topic of Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP results, discussed at the June 11 board meeting, Muri said MAP is an assessment tool that ECISD uses to monitor students’ academic growth.

“We use the cataract test and the final exam to give our skill levels, but we use the folder to tell our growth. This year’s folder results indicated that we are growing in quite a few areas … it also offered opportunities For further work and the great thing about these data elements, they tell us what we should focus on.

“It helps us to diagnose challenges that we are dealing with organizational. Perhaps those challenges are within a certain grade, or substantive area, or perhaps even at school, but it also shows the areas in which we have great strength. We use the MAP data to really make the decisions we make as an organization, so we will spend the entire summer unpacking and analyzing that data and then use it to make the decisions that we take as a school system and as individual schools when we entering the new year, “Muri said.

Map is also an indicator to help the district anticipate what it could see from the cataract results.

“We also have to deal with a different assessment, so we know that some elements of this assessment have been a challenge for students. We also know that we have had problems in different areas. We will also see some successes. I think we can see a mixed bag of results if the state announces this week this week, “said Muri.
