Nov. 2—CUMBERLAND — Allegany County voters will elect two school board members and Cumberland residents will choose from five candidates to fill two City Council seats in Tuesday’s election.
The four candidates in the nonpartisan Board of Education race are incumbents Crystal Bender and Tammy Fraley and challengers Max Green and Gerry LaFemina.
In the city, incumbents Laurie Peskin Marchini and Eugene Frazier are trying to fend off challengers DA Tinnen, Brian Lepley and Simeon Younger.
The posts in the municipal council and the education council have a term of four years. The City Council consists of four members and the BOE has five. The elections are staggered to prevent all seats from being open at the same time.
None of the three seats on the Allegany County Board of Commissioners are up for election this cycle. Cumberland’s mayoral office, currently held by Ray Morriss, won’t come up for a vote until 2026.
Voters will also help select the next representative of the U.S. House 6th Congressional District, a race between Democrat April McClain Delaney and Republican Neil Parrott, a former Washington County state representative. The district extends from rural Western Maryland, including Allegany and Garrett counties, to suburban Montgomery County.
Delaney and Parrott are vying to replace U.S. Rep. David Trone, who sought the Democratic nomination in Maryland’s Democratic Senate primary in May and lost to Angela Alsobrooks.
The vote also includes the battle for the U.S. Senate, with Alsobrooks, a Democrat, former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan and Libertarian Mike Scott vying to replace Sen. Ben Cardin, who is retiring.
The polling stations are open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m
