One person was killed Sunday in a crash that left 11 others hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision occurred in Edgefield County, Master Trooper Gary Miller said.

About 3:35 p.m., a 2003 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Plum Branch Road, while a 2004 Toyota Sienna van was traveling east on Morgan Bussey Road, Miller said. The driver of the van ignored a stop sign and the vehicles collided, Miller said.

Miller said one of the eight passengers in the van died at the scene.

The Edgefield County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the deceased passenger.

The van driver was taken to an area hospital along with the other seven passengers, as well as the Camry driver and two passengers in that car, Miller said. No further information on the condition of the surviving victims was available.

It is not known whether the people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts. The wreck remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
