Jan. 15—SUGAR NOTCH — Residents in most of Sugar Notch and parts of Warrior Run woke up without water Wednesday due to a main outage on Main Street near Brook Street.
The break occurred late Tuesday evening in front of the Bell House Winery, the former RC Church of the Holy Family.
Crews were seen working in frigid temperatures late Tuesday night and late Wednesday morning to repair the breach. Temperatures dropped into the mid-teens with wind chills in the single digits, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, NY.
Main Street between Brook Street and Oak Street is closed to traffic.
Pennsylvania American Water reported that customers were notified of the main outage just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
“This is an emergency notification from American Water. Our crews are making emergency repairs due to a main outage beginning January 15 in Sugar Notch. You live in the affected area and may experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure, or no water. The repairs are expected to take approximately eight hours. When the work is completed, you may experience temporary changes in your water.
For discoloration, run cold water on the lowest level of your home. If the water is cloudy, run water at the highest level of your home. The condition should clear after three to five minutes of running water,” said the alert message sent by Pennsylvania American Water.
The notice does not say whether homeowners and renters will need to boil their water once service is restored.
The estimated time to complete the repair is noon on Wednesday.
