Redwood City police and firefighters are on the scene of a building fire on Poplar Ave., sending a large plume of black smoke across the peninsula.
The Redwood City Police Department X account posted a message about the fire shortly after 12:00 p.m., asking people to avoid the area around 300 Poplar Ave., which is near El Camino Real and the Redwood Junction neighborhood in Redwood City.
Chopper footage of the fire showed multiple Redwood City Fire Department vehicles on the scene. The fire appeared to have spread to nearby trees on the burning property. There was evidence of wood near the fire, suggesting it may have occurred on a construction site.
There have been no reports of evacuations in the area so far.
