CHATHAM – A driver crashed into a Cape Cod restaurant Wednesday morning. The accident injured two people, including a restaurant worker who was pinned by the vehicle.
Car crashes into Chatham restaurant
It happened just after 9 a.m. at Larry’s PX Restaurant on Main Street in Chatham.
A Subaru Ranger driven by a 71-year-old woman plunged several feet into the restaurant, Chatham police said.
Impact left a gaping hole in the front of the restaurant.
Restaurant worker stranded after crash
One restaurant employee was seriously injured in the crash. They were taken to Cape Cod Hospital, but police said the employee is expected to survive.
Firefighters had to use special tools to free the restaurant worker and take him to a waiting ambulance.
The restaurant patron injured in the crash was also taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment. They are also expected to do well.
The driver of the accident was uninjured.
Cause of crash unknown
After the crash, the technical rescue team reinforced the building and ensured that all utilities were safe. The owners of the building were then allowed to enter the building again.
Surrounding businesses in Winkel Ahoy Plaza that have not suffered damage will remain open.
Chatham police are investigating the cause of the crash. It is not clear whether the driver will be prosecuted.
Chatham is located on Cape Cod, about 85 miles from Boston.
