Endocrinologist in North suburb killed in shooting: police

Authorities on Monday identified a northern suburban woman who was shot and killed in what police described as a domestic dispute.

Olga Duchon, 42, was found with a gunshot wound late Sunday afternoon on the 400 block of West Russell Street in Barrington, according to a news release from the Barrington Police Department.

Duchon, of the 800 block of Saugatuck Trail in Vernon Hills, was pronounced dead at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, police said. The Lake County Coroner’s Office did not immediately respond Monday afternoon to an inquiry into the autopsy results.

Police say they are still investigating the shooting.

Maria Hrycelak, president of the Ukrainian Medical Organization of North America Foundation, said Duchon had been the keynote speaker at a lecture on obesity management in Wheeling hours before she was killed.

The event ended Sunday at 4 p.m., Hrycelak said. Police responded to a call of a person shot around 5:40 p.m

Hrycelak said her death was a shock and described Duchon as “a very bright, smart, well-educated young lady.” Duchon was “known” as an endocrinologist in the northwest suburbs, she said, and as a mother of a young child.

Duchon worked for the Northwestern University Health system until 2023, but still treated patients as an independent physician at some of the system’s suburban hospitals, a hospital system spokesperson said.
