Escaped New Hampshire convict arrested in South Boston Friday morning

Aug. 2 — A Belknap County inmate who fled from a hospital where he was being treated early Sunday morning has been captured by U.S. Marshals in South Boston, federal officials said Friday.

Anthony Clark, 41, was charged on August 1, 2024, with violating the Fugitive Felon Act.

Clark was arrested Friday in South Boston and was ordered to appear in federal court in Concord.

Clark was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force, the Mass. State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the Boston Police Department Fugitive Unit.

Tips led detectives to an apartment on Logan Way in South Boston early Friday morning, where they found Clark in a bedroom in the rear of the building. Officials said he did not immediately surrender to the SWAT team.

Once Clark was located, he was arrested without further incident, officials said.

According to charging documents, Clark was being held in the Belknap County Jail on state charges including assault, domestic battery, strangulation, witness tampering and violation of a protective order.

In July, he was released on parole to Concord Hospital in Laconia for medical procedures. Clark had an electronic ankle bracelet to monitor his location.

On Sunday, July 28, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Laconia Police received a call from a concerned citizen who had found an ankle monitor on High Street, near Concord Hospital.

Police confirmed the bracelet belonged to Clark and hospital surveillance footage showed Clark fleeing the area around 1 a.m. that day.

When Clark removed the ankle monitor, an alert was issued that the bracelet had been tampered with, but it went unnoticed, authorities said.

Authorities suspect Clark was planning to flee to California at the time of his arrest.

“I commend the excellent cooperation of everyone involved in the swift arrest of a violent man,” U.S. Marshal Bill Hart said in a statement.

According to Hart, it was the public’s help that led to the arrest.
