The European Union is “deeply alarmed” by reports that North Korea is sending soldiers to fight in Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine, the bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said.
“It would be a unilateral hostile act by the DPRK with serious consequences for European and global peace and security,” said the statement released by Borrell on behalf of the 27 EU member states.
“This development also illustrates once again how Russia is spreading instability and escalation in the region and around the world,” Borrell continued.
Russia’s deepening military cooperation with North Korea sends the message that Russia, despite its stated willingness to negotiate, is not interested in peace, Borrell said.
“On the contrary, Russia is escalating and desperate for help for its war,” he added.
