The partnership between the European Commission, Euratex and industriAll Europe will include a series of capacity building seminars and workshops, as StitchTogether aims to build the capacity of social partners and enable them to participate more effectively in social dialogues at national level and European level.

The project also aims to promote a constructive dialogue between employers and trade unions in the seven countries to increase the involvement of social partners in EU policy-making and contribute to the development of sustainable and circular practices within the industry.

Through StitchTogether, the European textile and clothing industry will gain momentum in its efforts to adapt to global competition, environmentally friendly practices and technological advances while ensuring decent working conditions and robust social dialogue.

Director General of Euratex, Dirk Vantyghem, welcomed the new initiative, saying: “Having a constructive and mature social dialogue is an important part of this new EU Industrial Deal, which should be part of the European Commission’s next agenda . This project is therefore very timely.”

IndustriAll Europe Secretary General Judith Kirton-Darling added: “Quality social dialogue is essential to make the green and digital transition of the textile sector in Europe a success and to ensure a just transition for workers. We are excited to start this project and hope to see real results on the ground.”

With the EU elections taking place on June 6 and 9, Euratex Director General Vantyghem said in an interview with Just Style last week (May 23) that there are concerns that extreme politics could take power, but that there is also a new Industrial Deal is on the horizon which will provide the details on how the recent wave of adopted ESG legislation should be implemented.

“Euratex, IndustriAll Europe promotes social dialogue in the EU clothing industry” was originally created and published by Just Style, a brand owned by GlobalData.
