Euro 2024: Kylian Mbappe will reportedly miss France’s next match against the Netherlands

France are expected to be without Kylian Mbappe for their next Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands on Friday after he suffered a broken nose in their 1-0 win over Austria on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Julien Laurens, Mbappe will not play despite avoiding surgery, which would have forced him to miss the rest of the competition.

Mbappe was injured in the 85th minute on Monday after his nose hit Kevin Danso’s shoulder in the follow-up to his header, causing the French star to bleed.

Mbappe tried to return to the field of play in the 89th minute and immediately sat back down while holding his nose. He had returned to the match without permission from the referee, who gave him a yellow card.

After the match, Mbappé went to X to ask fans: “Any ideas for a mask?” for when he comes back.

French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo said on Tuesday he hopes Mbappe returns for the rest of the tournament.

“You saw it, he had an injury to his nose, the news is quite reassuring,” Diallo said. “There will be no operation in the short term. As for his return, it is premature to give a timetable today; we are going to wait for the latest information from the doctor this morning.”

After the Netherlands, France will play the group stage against Poland next Tuesday.
