Scotland are out of Euro 2024 after finishing bottom of Group A following a last-gasp win over Hungary in their final group stage match.

Germany were group winners, while Switzerland advanced to the knockout stage as runners-up.

Hungary finished on three points, but missed out on progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

Group B – Spain and Italy in the last 16

As group winners, Spain had already progressed to the last 16 with one game to spare.

Italy joined them in second thanks to Mattia Zaccagni’s injury-time equalizer against Croatia.

Croatia, who looked set to go on until that late equalizer, still had some small hope that they could still become one of the best third-placed teams, but England only turned that into a draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

The Three Lions won Group C despite a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, as Serbia and Denmark also played out a goalless stalemate.

Denmark finished second and advanced automatically, while Slovenia finished third and did enough to qualify as one of the top third-place teams.

The Danes and Slovenes finished level on points, goal difference and goals scored – but Denmark advanced as Slovenia picked up one more yellow card than them (7-6).

Serbia finished bottom of Group C as their tournament came to an end.

Group D – Austria, France and the Netherlands through

Austria passed France and the Netherlands to become the leader in Group D by beating the Netherlands 3-2 in their last group match.

They will play the second place in Group F in the last 16, while France will face the second place in Group E.

The Netherlands qualify as one of the best third-placed teams, but will have to wait until the remainder of the group stage is completed before discovering their opponents.

Poland had already been eliminated before Tuesday’s matches, becoming the first team to be eliminated from the competition after Friday’s draw between France and the Netherlands.

In Group E, all four teams finished on four points for the first time in European Championship history.

Romania tops the group and reaches the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time since Euro 2000.

Belgium, who surprisingly lost their opening match against Slovakia and were held by Ukraine in the final group match, finished second and will play France in the last 16.

Slovakia advanced as one of the top third-placed players, while Ukraine – despite finishing with more points than some teams that reached the knockout stages from other groups – were eliminated after finishing bottom.

Group F – Portugal through as group winners
