SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Evacuations have been lifted due to a vegetation fire that broke out in Sacramento County Sunday afternoon. Road closures in the nearby area remain in effect.

Sacramento Metro Fire said its crews are working a “very large vegetation fire” west of Sloughhouse. Cal Fire reported the fire has burned 876 acres, with containment at 0%.

The fire burned near Excelsior Road and Jackson Road and threatened several homes and livestock.

“When we first arrived, we had a significant motorcade with very limited visibility, so our crews were driving through smoke. We obviously have to take a lot of precautions. We want to get to those homes,” said Parker Wilbourn, head of the Sac Metro battalion. said.

The evacuation order was intended for people living within a mile of Jackson Road and Sunrise Boulevard, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the area is not yet being repopulated, but the evacuation order has been lifted. F

Several outbuildings were destroyed in the fire.

Gurdeep Bara lives on Jackson Road and said he was forced to abandon a cat.

“We saw the ambulance coming here and we saw a big fire. And then we tried to fight around the house, but then they told us to leave,” Bara said.

Cal Fire is assisting Sac Metro by responding with aircraft and ground assets.

The area is under a red flag warning with northerly winds of around 25 to 30 km/h and gusts up to 55 km/h. Dry winds, combined with low humidity, ensure that fires can easily start and spread quickly.

Sac Metro reported wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour and limited visibility due to smoke.

No injuries have been reported.
