Events in Santa Fe canceled Sunday after officer-involved shooting

September 8 – No one was injured in a shooting involving a Santa Fe police officer around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Santa Fe Deputy Police Chief Ben Valdez said in an email that the officers and the unidentified suspect are OK.

A social media post from the New Mexico State Police said the shooting involved Santa Fe police and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Valdez said Desfile de La Gente and all Sunday events at Santa Fe Plaza have been canceled. The Plaza will also be closed, along with Washington Avenue from Marcy Street to Palace Avenue and Palace Avenue from Washington Street to Paseo de Peralta. Additional road closures are possible.

“We are asking our community to avoid the Plaza area while New Mexico State Police are on scene investigating the OIS,” he said.

Valdez said additional updates will be provided as needed.
