Events to raise awareness about domestic violence

Oct. 16 – The St. Joseph YWCA is celebrating Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of events over the next week.

Local restaurants will participate in the Empty Seat at the Table event on Saturday, October 19, by reserving a space to symbolize those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.

On Tuesday, October 22, the YWCA will hold two events at Coleman Hawkins Park to raise awareness about domestic violence. A resource fair involving several community organizations will begin at 5 p.m., with a memorial walk starting at 6:30 p.m.

And the agency will have two more “In Her Shoes” simulations for community members to interact with on Oct. 17 and 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Those interested in attending can call 816. -232-4481 ext. 332 or email cmerritt@ywcasj.org.
