Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere returned to the Carolina Hurricanes this offseason on a three-year, $9.6 million contract. This was after the 6-foot-1 defenseman scored 10 goals and 56 points in 81 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2023-2024.

So far, it’s a move that is benefitting the Hurricanes immensely as Gostisbehere is playing fantastically. In his first nine games with the Canes, the 2012 third-round pick has four goals, nine points and a plus-3 rating. He also shows no signs of slowing down as he has recorded six points in his last five games.
The Flyers know full well that Gostisbehere can be a real offensive threat when he plays at his best. In 381 games over seven seasons as a Flyer, he had 60 goals and 219 points. This includes his career-best season in 2017-18, in which he scored 13 goals and set career highs with 52 assists and 65 points in 78 games.
It will now be interesting to see how well Gostisbehere builds on his strong start with the Canes. So far he has been a real home run for them.
