According to initial forecasts, the far-right Rassemblement National party is leading in France in the first round of early parliamentary elections.
Together with its allies, the party won 34% against 34.2% of the vote, broadcasters TF1 and France 2 reported on Sunday shortly after the polls closed.
President Emanuel MacronThe centrist alliance Ensemble (Together) came third with 20.3% against 21.5%, behind the left-wing alliance Nieuw Volksfront with 28.1% against 29.1%.
How many seats the blocs will receive in the National Assembly will only be decided on July 7 during the second elections.
