Expensive commuting? Ferry ticket prices in Washington will soon increase

If you rely on state ferries to get around, the cost of your commute will rise again next week.

Washington State Ferries (WSF) will increase ticket prices by 4% on Tuesday, October 1.

The change affects every route.

It’s something the agency warned us about last year when it hiked prices by another 4%.

The new transportation budget calls for state ferries to generate about $419 million in revenue by 2025.

According to the Washington State Transportation Commission, the fees fund 57% of WSF’s operations and maintenance.

WSF says Tuesday is also the first day that no high season vehicle surcharge applies.

In May, round-trip prices rose by almost $10. A round trip from Edmonds to Kingston will cost a couple with a standard car just under $60. The price is the same for a round trip between Bremerton and Seattle.

The surcharge will take effect again from May 1.
