Fairfield authorities are pursuing fines and closure proceedings against a local gift shop that police say was a front for criminal activity.

Two Fairfield men, ages 24 and 29, were arrested after investigators served search warrants at The Field Gift Shop at 1312 W. Texas St. on May 2. The names of the suspects were not released.

The arrest warrants came after a six-month investigation into the company that police described as “smoke and mirrors” due to criminal activity. Two illegal weapons, marijuana for sale, cocaine and a stolen dirt bike were allegedly found in the store, police said in a social media post.

The store’s colorful display window advertises pipes and bongs, clothing, shoes, accessories, exotic sweets and eyelashes.

Code enforcement officials are imposing fines and recommending the store’s business license be revoked. The company was given fifteen days to appeal the decision.
