Family and friends kick off Memorial Day weekend with hammocks at Spruce Street Harbor Park in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There was no hammock open Friday night Spruce Street Harbor Park.

“I heard it was their opening night and I decided to just gather some friends and come here and relax,” Alycia Kaufman said.

“We love the lights. We love the breeze off the water, it’s amazing,” said Nicole Middleton of Wilkes-Barre.

As the sun set over Penn’s Landing Friday evening, the food and drinks flowed freely. Many families were playing games by the water.

“Great to just be outside and have some fun, get some good air and have a day off,” said Omar Hunter of North Philadelphia.

CBS News Philadelphia spoke with people who said they just love the warm weather and taste of summer over Memorial Day weekend.

“I enjoyed the weather. I worked all day today, so I thought I’d come out and have some fun,” said Sonia Castillo.

“Considering the weather, it’s been rainy, humid and everything. It’s beautiful,” said Gene Lucas of Wilkes-Barre.
