Family member arrested after 72-year-old woman found dead in Olathe, police say

Police have arrested a family member after a woman was found dead in Olathe on Saturday evening.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Oakview Street around 5:53 p.m., where they found an unresponsive 72-year-old woman with “significant injuries,” said Sgt. John Moncayo, an Olathe police spokesman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police took a 40-year-old male relative into custody and held him for 48 hours for investigation. All parties involved have been contacted and police say there is no safety risk to the public.

The incident was the second homicide in Olathe this year, according to data obtained by The Star.
