NEW YORK – The first Cricket World Cup match will be played on Long Island on Monday.

Sri Lanka will take on Africa at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

It’s something cricket fans in New York have been waiting for it for a very long timeand it’s all part of a historic first: for the first time ever, the Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies.

Fans from all over the US and the world are in attendance, many taking several days off to be at the stadium and witness the first World Cup cricket bowled in the US.

People came from all over and bought tickets for different games, even the more expensive ones. Fans say they didn’t care.

“It doesn’t matter. We just want to look at it,” said Detroit resident Vinod Pillai.

“It’s once in our lives that we watch a cricket match in the US, and it’s a World Cup? Still, every two to three years the whole world plays against each other? You have to come and watch that,” says Chanaka, a resident of Wisconsin. Mendis said.

The eight matches at Eisenhower Park culminate in Sunday’s big showdown: India vs. Pakistan.

If you can’t come to the games, there are viewing parties available. The Cricket World Cup also takes care of that traffic disruptions that you should be aware of when you go to see it in person.
