Germany’s state security service said on Tuesday that it is investigating threats against a far-right candidate in the eastern state of Brandenburg, where elections will take place next month.
Jan Schenk, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party running for the Brandenburg state parliament, suffered property damage and was threatened several times, police said.
At one point, his garage was defaced with the words “Hunt Jan S.” Unknown persons had also loosened the wheel bolts of his car several times, he said.
After a recent campaign appearance in the town of Eichwalde, the text “Doos Jan Schenk bloedig” was written on the market square.
Schenk is a candidate from Königs Wusterhausen, a suburb of Berlin.
There were repeated incidents of hostility towards politicians during the campaign for the September 22 elections in Brandenburg, where the AfD is expected to have a strong position.
Recently, a Green Party election worker was attacked by a man while handing out flyers.
The German State Security Service deals with politically motivated crime.
