MANTUA TWP., N.J. (CBS) — A fatal crash on Route 55 today in Mantua Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey, has closed the northbound lanes of the highway, Gloucester County Emergency Management said.

According to officials, Route 55 North is closed between Exit 48 (Ellis Street, Glassboro) and Exit 53 (Woodbury-Glassboro Road).

The county’s emergency department estimates the northbound lanes will be closed for four to six hours as the New Jersey State Police investigate a reported multi-vehicle crash.

Traffic in the southbound lanes is “very congested due to a counterflow system on the northbound side,” officials wrote on Facebook.

Drivers should expect traffic congestion on the Route 55 corridor from Glassboro to Deptford Township, authorities said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
