MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA – A Massachusetts father is scheduled to appear in court Monday after police say he kidnapped his young daughter on Sunday.
Found hiding in cemetery
Police in Manchester-by-the-Sea said they were called to a home on Summer Street about 1.30pm on Sunday for a domestic incident and learned that a man had fled the scene with his 5-year-old daughter.
Police K-9 teams reportedly tracked the man behind Manchester-Essex Regional High School to a nearby cemetery. It was there where police said they found the man with the girl behind a gravestone covered in leaves.
Childproof
The man was taken to Beverly Hospital for evaluation after police said he suffered minor injuries during his arrest. The girl, who was unharmed, was reunited with her mother and is safe.
“There is no threat to the public at this time and we are relieved that the child has been safely located and reunited with her mother,” Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald said in a statement.
Facing multiple charges
The man is facing multiple charges, including domestic violence and assault, assault and battery on a child under 14, reckless endangerment of a child, carrying a dangerous weapon, parental kidnapping and possession of class B- and E-medicines. His name has not been released. He will be arraigned in Salem District Court on Monday.
The incident remains under investigation by Manchester-by-the-Sea Police.
