The fire in the 3000 block of Ruth Street sent a huge column of smoke into the sky that was visible from the Betsy Ross Bridge and across the river in New Jersey.

NEXT Traffic reporter Kim Hudson reported a road closure on Kensington Avenue at Clearfield Street near the fire.

After crews arrived on the scene around 7:30 a.m., fire trucks surrounded the burning building, near Frances Willard Elementary School. The School District of Philadelphia said the students did not arrive at the school, but staff were moved to nearby Conwell Middle School.

A spokesperson for the Philadelphia Fire Department said no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Philadelphia Fire Marshal’s Office.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
