Thirty-nine people were displaced after a fire damaged 10 homes in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday.
The fire happened in the 700 block of Lafayette Street. The fire brigade was called to the scene before 3 p.m. and the fire was under control hours later.
Chopper 3 was above the fire and saw several firefighters on the roofs of townhomes fighting the blaze. Fire officials said there was one minor injury, but overall everyone is OK.
It is unclear how the fire started.
Many neighbors told CBS News Philadelphia that they saw the fire burning and began banging on the doors of homes.
“Me and another guy were driving by. He stopped his car, jumped out and started banging on the door,” said a man who saw the fire. “I look out my window and I see the smoke coming out of the air conditioner from the second floor. And by the time we banged on the door, no one answered. We kicked the door open. Two other guys ran in because that’s what we saw children outside.”
“You don’t want anyone to get burned, the holiday is tomorrow,” he added.
The Red Cross said a shelter has been set up at Blockson Middle School at 1315 West Marshall Street in Norristown for those affected by the fire. A shelter has also been set up at the Hancock Fire Company at 820 West Airy Street in Norristown for those affected by the blaze.
