Fire in Southern Washington claims one life, investigation ongoing

A fire at a building near Strode Road in Carson claimed the life of one resident Tuesday evening, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Carson is located north of Mount Hood, just across the Washington state line.

On December 10 at approximately 9:54 p.m., the Skamania County Communications Center received a report of a fire.

Firefighters from Skamania County Fire District 1 and the Stevenson Fire Department, along with personnel from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services, quickly responded to the scene.

The fire brigade immediately searched for the residents while extinguishing the fire.

They removed and extricated one person from the structure and provided emergency medical care at the scene.

Despite their efforts, the person died from injuries sustained in the fire.

The fire was eventually extinguished and authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Responding agencies extended their condolences to the victim’s family and recognized the significant loss.
