Firefighters rushed to a Long Beach neighborhood Monday after a possible explosion destroyed a rear home.

According to Long Beach Fire and Police Departments, it happened around 11 a.m. at a residence in the 2800 block of Gale Avenue. The explosion completely destroyed the outbuildings, also known as the back house or granny flat. However, the adjacent main building suffered significant damage to its exterior walls.

Firefighters remained on site to inspect the destroyed building. An ambulance took one man to hospital with burns. The severity of the injuries remains unclear.

Inspectors have given the back house a red tag and the main building a yellow tag. The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and a child affected by the explosion.

The explosion caused approximately 2,000 residents to lose power. However, crews resolved most of the faults within a few hours of the explosion.
