Firefighters perform life-saving CPR on dog rescued from cooking fire

Sept. 16 (UPI) — Firefighters in Utah rescued a dog from an apartment fire believed to have been caused by cooking, officials said.

The 911 call came in around 5:30 a.m. EDT and rescuers located a burning building in Midvale.

The only occupant in the apartment at the time was a dog. The dog was in a kennel and was unresponsive when firefighters arrived.

However, the animal was given life-saving resuscitation.

The other residents of the unit had already left when the fire broke out, but the damage is so extensive that they cannot return home.

“Not all heroes wear capes,” Unified Fire Authority officials wrote on social media. “Sometimes they wear leashes. Today, Company 110 had the incredible opportunity to rescue a dog from a fire. Moments like these remind us how fortunate we are to not only protect our community, but also our furry family members. Grateful for the opportunity to save lives, both human and animal.”
