It was not immediately clear how or why the 25-year-old man was in the chimney, but crews reported he was trapped somewhere near the second floor of the four-story building, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“LAFD Urban Search and Rescue crews were able to breach the vertical space using power tools,” the statement said.

Once they broke through, they were able to enter the shaft where the man was trapped and get him to safety.

Crews used specialized cameras to determine where the man was located.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital with minor injuries sustained in the incident.

With SkyCal over the scene, several firefighters could be seen pulling apart the inside of a wall in an attempt to free the man.
