A flight from Norway to Spain had to make an emergency landing in Denmark after a mouse slipped out of a meal served to a passenger.
The Scandinavian Airlines plane was en route from Oslo, Norway to Malaga, Spain, CBS News affiliate BBC News reported.
Passenger Jarle Borrestad told the BBC that he was sitting next to the woman whose food contained the mouse. When she opened the box of food, the mouse ran out, he said.
He said he pulled his socks up over his pant legs so the mouse couldn’t crawl up, but insisted the people remained very calm and “weren’t stressed at all.”
Airline spokesman Oystein Schmidt told AFP the emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, was in line with the company’s procedures, as mice and other rodents can pose a safety risk. Airlines typically have strict restrictions on rodents on board, as they can chew through electrical wiring, the BBC reported.
“This happens very rarely,” Schmidt told AFP.
Schmidt also said that in-flight meal providers will be assessed “to ensure this does not happen again.”
Passengers were transferred to another plane to resume their journey to Spain. Borrestad told the BBC that the delay added only a few hours to the journey.
