Flood warning issued just east of Pittsburgh area as Tropical Storm Debby moves north

A flood warning has been issued for the mountains east of the ridges as rain from Tropical Storm Debby moves north on Thursday, bringing the potential for heavy rain and localised flooding to parts of our area.

Thursday will be muggy and warm with increasing cloudiness throughout the day. A few showers or thunderstorms are possible, but most areas will remain dry.

More rain is expected Thursday night and Friday, with periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. At this time, Debby’s heaviest rainfall is forecast to fall east of Pittsburgh, with the highest totals in Westmoreland, Fayette, Armstrong, Indiana and central Pennsylvania counties.

However, moving just 50 miles can bring more rainfall toward Pittsburgh, so be aware of the weather.

When the storm passes on Friday evening, cooler, less humid air will flow into the country.
