Floridians fleeing Hurricane Milton are facing long lines at the pumps. How to find gas near you

If you’ve tried to fill your tank this past day, you know: the rush of people preparing for Hurricane Milton is causing long lines and empty gas pumps.

More gas is on the way, Gov. Ron DeSantis said during a news conference Tuesday morning.

“We sent fuel in the last 24 hours because the gas stations were empty,” he said. “We have an additional 1.2 million gallons of diesel and gasoline that are currently en route to the state of Florida.

“Now there is no fuel shortage,” DeSantis said. “Fuel continues to arrive in the state of Florida through the port, and what we are doing to bring it in by ground, but the lines at gas stations have been long.”

On Monday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol escorted 27 fuel trucks to stations in the expected impact area, the governor said. “We also work with fuel companies like Racetrac, Wawa, Shell and Walmart to ensure fuel trucks are working 24/7 to ensure fuel is delivered as it enters our ports.”

Efforts are also underway to circumvent expected damage to the Port of Tampa, he said.
