There is a recall underway of approximately 90,700 Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

The Michigan-based automaker said in a recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the recall was prompted by a risk that the engines in the affected 2021-2022 Ford Bronco, Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator and Lincoln Nautilus “may contain intake valves that have a tendency to crack and break.”

According to the recall report, all 90,700 recalled SUVs and pickup trucks are equipped with either the 2.7-liter or 3-liter Nano EcoBoost engine.

More than 90,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are being recalled.

Ford notified NHTSA of the recall on August 23.

“A failed engine intake valve could cause catastrophic engine failure, resulting in loss of drivetrain power,” Ford said in the recall report. “Loss of drivetrain power could increase the risk of a crash.”

The problem with the engine’s intake valve is likely to manifest itself early in the vehicle’s life when the part is prone to cracking, Ford told FOX Business.

According to documents Ford filed with the NHTSA, the problem has not resulted in any accidents or injuries so far.

“Our goal is to prevent quality issues from happening in the first place,” Ford said in a statement to FOX Business. “When they do occur, we focus on responding quickly with a recall or service action to prevent our customers from experiencing issues with minimal inconvenience. We’re proud that our launch quality is best-in-class and that our quality is improving over the long term.”

Dealers will install a new engine, free of charge, in recalled vehicles that fail an engine cycle test. When they have their vehicles repaired, affected customers will have access to Ford’s pick-up, delivery and rental services, the company said.

According to Ford, the problem has not caused any accidents or injuries so far.

According to the NHTSA recall report, the automaker will notify owners of affected Ford and Lincoln vehicles of the recall by letter in early October.
