Former adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Tezlyn Figaro, says “there was never a chance” that Vice President Kamala Harris would have won Donald Trump in the presidential election, calling her campaign “a disaster.”
“There was never a chance that VP Harris would have a shot at this,” Figaro told NewsNation’s Dan Abrams on Friday.
“I said it, Dan, in June, I said it in July – they’re preparing her for a 100-day campaign, especially for a woman of color, a 100-day campaign was a disaster,” she continued. “Joe Biden should have been released for the last two years. They should have held a primary and appointed someone to that seat.”
After Abrams asked her to point out what she thinks went wrong, Figaro highlighted the missteps she believes led to Harris’ defeat.
“Well, one: Joe Biden was the problem,” Figaro said. “He should have gotten out earlier.”
“But I do want to address the class of consultants who have been fiddling with a billion-dollar bag,” she added, claiming they have been doing so “since Obama was in office.”
“They literally came to these cities, they didn’t listen to the grassroots. They said they knew it all,” Figaro said. “They spent all the money internally, they spent all the money on celebrities, they didn’t listen to the needs of the people.”
Noting that the consultant class “got exactly what they deserved,” she went on to say that “it’s a shame because people are going to suffer now.”
“It’s time, with respect, for the George Clooneys of the world, the Hollywood of the world, with respect for the James Carville of the world, who they still listen to… it’s time for them to take a seat and listening to the grassroots and what they are looking for,” Figaro said.
“And until they do, Democrats will continue to fail.”
