Former Blue Valley coach sentenced to 36 months probation for child abuse

A former Blue Valley Southwest High School athletic coach has been sentenced to 36 months of probation after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a child.

Christopher Poskey, 40, of Overland Park, was sentenced Friday on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child in Johnson County District Court. Court records show he took a plea deal in April.

Prosecutors allege that Poskey, who worked through the University of Kansas Health System, enticed a child under the age of 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Blue Valley School District staff and a school resource officer were named as witnesses in an April 2023 criminal complaint.

Blue Springs District Court Judge Neil Foth decided to seal affidavits in the case. In a motion last year, Foth said the statements should not be made public to keep law enforcement techniques or procedures secret from the public.

According to investigators, Poskey admitted to having multiple sexually explicit conversations with minors or people he believed were minors.

They said he also admitted to making sexually explicit images of himself and sending them to minors while he was at work.

Poskey worked for the University of Kansas Health System for about nine years. He agreed to surrender his license to practice athletic training following an order from the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in June 2023.

In the order, Poskey conceded that if a formal hearing were held, the board would have sufficient evidence to revoke his license.
