On Friday, a jury found former interim Hinds County Sheriff Marshand Crisler guilty of two federal bribery-related charges.
A jury convicted Crisler of soliciting and accepting $9,500 in bribes during his failed 2021 campaign for Hinds County sheriff in exchange for favors and giving ammunition to a convicted felon, who cannot possess firearm ammunition as defined by federal law. law.
The criminal, identified as Tonarri Moore, was an informant for the FBI and helped solve a 1996 manslaughter charge.
According to court records, Moore asked for favors, such as moving his cousin to a safer place in jail.
Court documents show Crisler agreed to protect Moore’s relative and give Moore a job with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office. Crisler also accepted the bribes in exchange for passing on information about criminal investigations.
Crisler faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of the two counts in the indictment.

Crisler was charged in April 2023 and pleaded not guilty.
Court documents filed Nov. 8 state that Crisler will remain on parole until his sentencing, scheduled for Feb. 6, 2025.
Crisler ran against current Sheriff Tyree Jones in 2021 after being appointed months earlier to replace former Sheriff Lee Vance following his death. Jones ultimately defeated Crisler with about 20% of the vote. Crisler was later named interim director of the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center.
