Former Jets WR Brandon Marshall expects big things from Garrett Wilson this season

Garrett Wilson is very good at football.

You know it, I know it, almost everyone in sports knows it.

But a former Jets wide receiver who has a knack for being among the league’s greats believes the young wideout has the potential to reach that level in the near future.

“How big can this kid be? He can be the best,” Brandon Marshall said Caroline Hendershot of Jets.com. “His ability, his heart, it’s right up there with the Justin Jefferson‘s, it’s there with Davante Adamsand so on. There’s a lot to it, but the sky’s the limit for this kid, he just has to take it one game and one match at a time.”

Despite struggling with sluggish quarterback play since being selected 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Wilson has quickly developed into a force for Gang Green’s offense.

The veteran receiver put in a stellar opening performance and captured the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award after scoring four goals and setting a new franchise record with 83 receptions and 1,103 yards.

After the team Aaron Rodgers Many thought he would have an even bigger sophomore campaign in an offseason trade, but those plans quickly fell apart when the veteran suffered an injury that sidelined him for the season, playing just four snaps in the season opener against the Bills.

Wilson once again worked with a struggling group of quarterbacks, but his production remained high, surpassing his reception record (95) and breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season (1,042).

With Rodgers healthy again, the offensive line much improved and additional receivers added to the mix, expectations are high for Wilson and the rest of the Jets offense this season.

The 24-year-old has shown early in practice the great bond he has built with the future Hall of Fame quarterback, leading Marshall to expect a big breakthrough.

“I’m excited to see him really break out this year,” he said. “Obviously he’s going to be over 1,000, but can he be a 1,400 or 1,500 yard receiver? I don’t know, Rodgers has done it with so many receivers, so I think this is going to be a fun year for the Jets.”
