A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been charged with allegedly sexually harassing a 13-year-old girl at his Cudahy home in 2022.

Officer Bryan Cardoso, 30, is accused of assaulting the teen on June 13, 2020, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

On Wednesday, the district attorney announced that Cardoso had been charged with a single count of indecent acts with a child under the age of 14. He was arrested on the charges but has since been released after posting $100,000 bail on Sept. 12.

Prosecutors said the attack involved “great violence, grievous bodily harm, threats of grievous bodily harm and other acts that betrayed a high degree of cruelty, meanness and callousness.”

He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 8, the statement said. If found guilty of the charges, he faces up to eight years in prison.

It is unclear what the connection is between Cardoso and the girl.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the egregious attack on an innocent 13-year-old girl by someone charged with protecting our community,” District Attorney George Gascón said in the statement. “This child suffered an unimaginable violation of trust. The alleged actions of this deputy are reprehensible and unacceptable. Our office is committed to ensuring that justice is served and the perpetrator is held fully accountable.”
