Former NFL player charged with domestic violence after missing teenage son found ‘safe and sound’

Former NFL player Daniel Muir and his wife have been charged with allegedly hiding their teenage son from authorities amid concerns the boy was being abused.

Bryson Muir, 14, was found safe Wednesday morning after Indiana State Police and local authorities executed search warrants at the family’s Logansport home, according to an Indiana State Police news release. Bryson was last seen leaving his grandmother’s home in Ohio on June 16.

Daniel Muir is charged with obstruction of justice and domestic violence. His wife, Kristin Muir, is also charged with obstruction, police said.

Kristin Muir’s mother, Cheryl Wright, told NBC affiliate WTHR last week that she picked up her grandson in Toledo, Ohio, at the request of his parents. While Bryson was with her, she noticed the boy had a black eye, a split lip and a swollen face.

“He just said his dad did it, but he wasn’t mad, but he wasn’t mad at his dad either,” Wright said. “He told me he deserved it and it was okay. So I told him it wasn’t and no one should hit their kids like that, not if they love them.”

A photo in Bryson’s silver alert shows the 14-year-old with a bruised eye. According to WTHR, Wright shared that photo with police.

Wright called local police on June 16 after Bryson’s parents picked him up, accompanied by an unknown man. However, Bryson was no longer in the car when it was pulled over minutes after she left her home.

Indiana State Police said they were called two days later to assist in a domestic violence investigation. Investigators spoke with Daniel and Kristin Muir, who agreed to meet with Bryson.

But the couple never brought the teenage boy to the meeting with detectives.

A “silver alert” was issued on Sunday for Bryson, who was considered “missing and endangered,” according to police.

Bryson is now in the custody of the Cass County Department of Child Services. He appeared to be “safe and sound,” state police said.

Court records were not immediately available for Daniel and Kristin Muir. It is unclear whether the couple, who were taken to Cass County Jail, have retained an attorney.
