It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for a former Pittsburgh Penguins forward.
After signing a one-year NHL contract on Nov. 22, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed Alex Nylander on waivers Wednesday afternoon.

Before signing his NHL contract, Nylander, the younger brother of the Leafs’ William Nylander, had eight goals and 12 points in 14 games with Toronto’s AHL affiliate, the Marlies, this season. He was initially signed to add some depth to the team after the Leafs were marred by forward injuries, most of which are now healthy – which is likely the main reason that prompted the decision to waive him.
The 26-year-old played just five games for Toronto and failed to record a point.
