Former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Johns dies at 62

The Tuscaloosa County School System is mourning the loss of Deputy Tim Johns, 62, a resource officer at Brookwood High School, who died Tuesday.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office announced Johns’ death in a news release Wednesday.

“Sadly, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office announces the sudden passing of Deputy Tim Johns, 62, on October 8, 2024. Deputy Johns suffered a medical emergency while on duty that resulted in his unfortunate passing,” said Investigator Jessica McDaniel, a spokeswoman for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Johns worked with the TCSO for 26 years and was assigned to Brookwood High School as a School Resource Officer.

Johns was a beloved member of the Brookwood High School community, according to the release. He recently served as the grand marshal of the Brookwood High School homecoming parade.

McDaniel said Johns made a lasting impression on those around him.

“He will be deeply missed by many, including his colleagues, school staff and the students of Brookwood High School. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has lost a beloved colleague and friend. He will be remembered for his candor and great sense of humor .” and commitment to community. Our deepest condolences go out to the family members of Deputy Tim Johns,” McDaniel said.

The TCSS Office of the Superintendent and Brookwood High School administration released a statement to the school community on Tuesday following the news of Johns’ death.

The statement reads:

“We are extremely saddened to let you know that this afternoon we lost a cherished member of our school community, Deputy Tim Johns. Deputy Johns served our schools in the Brookwood area as our School Resource Officer. Our thoughts and prayers go out deeply to Deputy Johns’ family, loved ones and all members of our school community who knew him.”

“School administrators said counselors will be available on campus this week to support students, faculty and staff.

“Tomorrow and beyond, our district support team of counselors and social workers will be available to our students, faculty and staff. Families, encourage your students to seek help. We are here for them. This will be a difficult time for our teachers and employees, and we will have support for them.

“We love our students, faculty and staff very much. “We want to make sure you are all taken care of and that we support each other as we grieve someone who meant so much to our schools,” the statement said.
